    With the rapid development of IACVA throughout the world, more and more Charters have come into being. The latest is a new one in Canada, our home country,, which is led by Michel Regimbald; it will soon have almost 40 members.  It is worth noting that our own Chairman, James Catty is also included in IACVA-Canada Charter group.
    Michel’s group is leading the project to introduce a graduate level CVA course in universities. It will be available globally to students in graduate finance, accounting and other related fields. Michel is headquartered in the Montreal area.

    Canada’s new charter comes on the heels of the new Russia-CIS Charter.

    The opportunities and challenges from the International Accounting Standards

    On May 31st 2011, a symposium named “The Global View of Valuation Industry” was held by IACVA and Visionaire Advisors Co., Ltd. in Shanghai, China.

    During the seminar, Bill Hanlin (president of IACVA), Susan Yi (VP of IACVA- Asia), Ms Jennifer Chen (Taiwan Charter of IACVA) and Mr. Simon Chen (Regional Director of Jones Lang LaSalle Sallmanns), all gave an impressive presentations.  The topics included: the impact of IFRS on valuation industry, the practice development of CVAs, the chances of professional service for international firms, the loopholes of overseas investment.

    The president of Visionaire Advisors said, “These three topics are timely: Chinese companies have come to an international merger stage, the international version of China stock market is being looked forward to. It has been almost one hundred years that valuation developed overseas.  And it has been 20 years since the first IAS (International Accounting Standards) was published.  Therefore, it is meaningful to hold such an international conference at this time.”
    Over 40 professionals attended this symposium, many from the big 4 accounting firms & businesses with international investments. A representative from Shanghai SASAC (State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission) also participated.

    IACVA is pleased to announce the opening of the CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States) affiliate in Moscow, Russia.
    William Hanlin, President, stated that with the signing of this agreement with Igor Artemenkov, President, IACVA Russia & CIS, that the globe's largest association of business and intangible asset valuators now trains and certifies CVA's (Certified Valuation Analysts) in over 47 nations.
    Jim Catty, Chairman of IACVA added that there are more than 8,500 CVA's around the globe, all trained and certified to the same high level of expertise. Formal regional professional associations have been established in 8 key locations: USA, Europe, Africa, Taiwan, Korea, China, Middle East, and now the CIS. William Hanlin indicates that two additional regions are within weeks of finalizing the establishment of their regional organizations. He also indicated that recent changes in international accounting standards are driving the interest to a single, consistent, standard of valuation.

    From May 9th to 11th, IACVA President William Hanlin visited KVA to discuss cooperation with IACVA. 
    On May 9th, Mr. Hanlin visited the city of Daejeon, the birthplace of KVA. There, he met with Dr. Seol, Society Honorary Chairman of KVA, Dr.Lee from the University of Science and Technology, and Mr. Park, president of the Daejoen chapter of KVA. Mr. Hanlin delivered a speech on Global Trends and Future of Valuation, upon which the attendees expressed favorable opinions.
    On May 10th, Mr. Hanlin visited the Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI), and had a warm discussion with the KISTI members about recent valuation trends.
    This year, KVA has launched three training sessions for CVA candidates. During this trip, Mr. Hanlin also went to the location of the Korean CVA training, and gave his warmest greetings to the trainees.  So far, KVA has established five branch offices to build-up a network.

    On April 1st, Chairman of the Board, James Catty and IACVA President, William Hanlin visited Shaanxi Jindi Law Firm. The two parties discussed about their future cooperation.

    During the conference, Mr. Hanlin illustrated the professional services of CVA and CFD to the management of Jindi Law Firm. Both sides exchanged ideas on areas of cooperation between business and legal professionals. The two parties also put forward suggestions for future cooperation and both believed that cross discipline cooperation would have a bright future. The initial steps of cooperation had also been established.

    Shaanxi Jindi Law Firm has more than 60 attorneys who offer services in legal consultancy, dispute settlement and other criminal and civil affairs. It is the largest local law firm in Northwestern China region.

    On March 31,2011, Chairman of Board, James Catty and IACVA President, William Hanlin visited Xi’an Zhengheng Valuation Inc. They talked about the cooperation between IACVA and Zhengheng Valuation Inc.

    During the meeting, the two sides discussed issues related to the market of business valuation, valuator training and future cooperation. Mr. Lei introduced the history and developing process of Zhengheng, as well as the current situation of valuator training in their firm. Mr. Hanlin expressed his confidence about the bright future of valuation profession in China and IACVA’s willingness to cooperate with Zhengheng Valuation Inc.

    Chairman of Board, James Catty and President, William Hanlin have been invited by China Appraisal Society and United China, largest valuation firm in China to be honored guests at their grand celebration at the Great Hall of People.

    After months of preparation, IACVA's Second International Conference was successfully held on December 2nd and 3rd in Seoul, Korea.  More than 200 attendees from around the world came to this conference.  IACVA’s Third World Council Meeting was held on the following day.  Representatives from charters shared developments from their countries.

    In September of 2010, two of the directors from IACVA (William Hanlin and James Horvatch) were invited to attend the Fourth Annual Member's Conference by China Appraisal Society (CAS).  At the follow-on standards meeting jointly held by the Ministry of Finance and CAS, Mr. Hanlin was presented with the honor of the Advisory Member for country's valuation standard committee.

    In August of 2010, IACVA headquarters hosted a group of senior valuators from China.  These valuators are chief valuator or senior managers from the major valuation firms. They spent 4 days with IACVA instructors on the newest development in the valuation theory and practices.

    2009 Events

    NACVA 14th Annual Conference was successfully held in Boston, Massachusetts from May 27th to May 30th, 2009. Despite the worldwide downturn of the economy, more than 60 international delegates and 700 domestic delegates joined this conference.

    First credentialed CVAs in China received their certificates from Mr. Gongxia Yue, Vice Secretary General of China Appraisal Society. They are the first group of professionals who have received such honor. Following the certificate presentation, they attended the continuing education sponsored by IACVA China Charter in Shanghai.

    On December 3, 2009, after a warm invitation, China’s Vice Minister of Finance, Xuedong
    Ding welcomed IACVA’s President, William A. Hanlin at his Beijing office. Vice Minister Ding oversees the valuation profession in People’s Republic of China. He expressed thanks to IACVA for its continued efforts in educating professionals in China. IACVA and China Appraisal Society have established a long term working relationship. Both parties will continue the cooperation to bring best practices to Chinese professionals.

    IACVA Headquarters and IACVA Taiwan Charter jointly sponsored the first IACVA International Conference in Taipei on November 26th and 27th of 2009. With the help of Taiwan Charter, IACVA organized the conference, with Taiwan Stock Exchange, Gre Tai Securities Market and Industrial Technology Research Institute as the Co-Organizers and sponsors to the Conference.

    The Fifth Annual Conference sponsored by Germany Charter will be held in the beautiful historic city of Duesseldorf on November 10th and 11th.  In addition, Germany Charter is holding living seminars on: Valuation meets Tax and Accounting series throughout the year.
